William Taylor Schmitz, Jr., 85, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel. Pastor Chris Minor- Helig will be officiating. Burial will take place in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Lemke Funeral Homes has been assisting the family.

William was born September 15, 1925, in Clinton the son of William T. and Cora ( Westgate ) Schmitz.

William served with the United States Navy November 19, 1943 – April 19, 1946. He was a veteran of Pearl Harbor.

On November 24, 1950 William married Betty Dietterich at Lyons United Methodist Church.

William worked for Clinton Lock Company, Curtis Woodwork and later retired from Collis Company.

William was a member of Lyons United Methodist Church ( Living Faith ), he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating , and he was a rock and gem hobbiest.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty , of Clinton, 1 daughter, Karen (Mrs. Ron ) Crampton, 5 grandchildren, Ron, Buck, Taylor, Aubrey, Sara, greatgrandson, Ellis, 1 brother, Richard, and 2 half sisters, Mary and Pearl.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.
