Miss Gertrude E. Miller, 101, Grand Mound, died Tuesday afternoon, April 26, 2011 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Gertrude Eunice Miller was born November 7, 1909 on the family farm at rural Grand Mound. Her parents were Elbert E. and Adra (Walrod) Miller. She attended eight years of rural school in Clinton County and four years at Grand Mound High School. Gertrude went to teacher training and received accreditation for teaching in rural schools. She always enjoyed working with plants and flowers and worked at garden centers in the Quad City area. Gertrude later worked at Fresh Pak Candy Company until retirement. She and her sister Kathleen enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and her sister Lois and she enjoyed traveling out west. Gertrude also enjoyed traveling with her sister and brother to Canada and New York. She will be remembered by her family as being a great cook.

Surviving are a sister, Lois Miller, DeWitt; nieces and nephews, Marilyn Bartee, Pensacola, Florida, Jeanette Wiggins, Rock Island, Illinois, Virginia Schurbon, Kooskia, Idaho, Guila Miller, Milan, Illinois, Richard Miller, Bettendorf; great nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gertrude in death were her parents, brothers, Elbert L. "Larsie", Howard and Gerald and sisters, Gladys Miller and Kathleen Garmon and a niece, Beverly Grable.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning, April 30, 2011 at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Burial will follow.
