Myron Eugene “Gene” Donahey, 83, of Clinton, died Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Alverno. Services will be 11am Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 4PM to 8PM Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

Myron was born August 28, 1927 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of William and Mary Ellen (Petersen) Donahey. He was a St. Mary’s High School graduate. He married Shirley Rose Thompson on April 22, 1950 in Clinton; she died August 16, 2005.

Myron was a United States Navy WWII Veteran.

He was employed at E.I. DuPont for 37 years retiring in 1984. He had also been employed as a driver for Skyline, worked for the Job Corps, delivered for Wagner Pharmacy and worked for Enterprise Car Rental for 12 years. He was a great provider for his family.

Myron was a member of Prince of Peace; He enjoyed Notre Dame football and the San Francisco Giants were his favorite baseball team. Myron and his wife, Shirley enjoyed the off track horse races in Moline and he was one of the last great liberal thinkers. He was very active with the Democratic Party.

Survivors include his sons, Mike (Karen) Donahey of Marshalltown, IA; Tom (Jill) Donahey of Janesville, WI and John (Bridget) Donahey of Rogers AR; daughters, Nancy (Roger) Johnston of Belvidere, IL and Linda (Ted) Fayram of Bellevue, NE; eleven grandchildren; sisters, Delores Smith of Clinton and Dorothy Miller of Camanche and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
