Miles, Iowa - Delbert D. “Del” Christiansen, age 77 of Miles, died Friday, April 1, 2011 at his home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 6th at St. John Lutheran’s Church in Preston. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church and from 10:00 A.M. until the service time on Wednesday. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Ron Wilcke, Eugene Bruhn, Dwain Bruhn, Rodney Wilson, Wayne Daniels, Harley Daniels, Bernie Bahnsen and Owen Eads. Honorary casket bearers will be Del’s grandchildren. Assisting the family will be the Pape Funeral Home.
Del was born in Miles on August 21, 1933, the son of August and Rosa Peters Christiansen. He graduated from Miles High School in 1951 and attended Clinton Junior College. Del married Carol Nielsen on October 16, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clinton. He owned and operated Feeder’s Supply Inc. in Miles, Preston, and Elvira, and retired in 2003.
Del was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston. He had served on the church council and the building committee. He was a charter member of the Miles Lion’s Club and a member of the Miles Business Association, Iowa Fertilizer and Chemical Association, Iowa Feed and Grain Association, Miles Threshers’ Association, the Miles Fire Department, and had served as director of the Miles Fire District. He was a Little League coach in Miles an active supporter of the Miles and East Central School District. Del enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, and spending time at Apple Canyon Lake. He especially enjoyed following his grandchildren in their sporting and music activities.
Del is survived by his wife Carol; a son, Brent (Susan) Christiansen of Miles; a daughter, Beth (Ed) Sterk of Bryant; seven grandchildren, Caitlin, Connor, Kyle, Shannon, Ethan, Jarrett and Chandler; his mother, Rosa Christiansen of Morrison and a sister, Shirley (Kenneth) Mills of Morrison. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society, Lung Research.
