Clinton - Clara B. Pelham age 84 of Clinton died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday at Community Congregational Church, UCC. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Matthew Pelham, Michael Pelham, Aaron Pelham, Will Webster, David Goodell, Eric Hays and David Brennum. Memorials may be made to the Community Congregational Church or Mercy HOSPICE.
Clara was born in Garden Plain, Illinois on July 9, 1926, the daughter of Burnie and Minnie Medema Temple. She graduated from Erie High School in 1943. Clara married Lyle D. Pelham on April 20, 1949 in Garden Plain. Clara was an active member of the Community Congregational Church for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, served as Financial Secretary and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship. Clara could always be found either in the church kitchen or cleaning the church itself, organizing and cooking for all the dinners and special occasions. She had served on the Horace Mann PTA and was involved with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grand mother and great grandmother. Her family and church were the most important things in her life. Her potato salad and sour cream coffee cakes were legendary.
Clara is survived by her husband Lyle; two sons, Steven (JoLynn) Pelham of Clinton and Daniel (Joanne) Pelham of Waubun, MN; a daughter, Deborah (Robert) Goodell of Holmen, WI; eight grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Elizabeth, Lena, Aaron, Melissa, David and Angela; 11 great grandchildren, Jack, Charlie, Isla, Sara, Kaylie, Thomas, Janaisia, Isabella, Amani, Meikei and Ryder and two brothers, Elmer (Catherine) Temple and George (Helen) Temple both of Morrison. She was preceded in death by her parents and two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Lauren.
