Clinton - Anna Johanna Christina Henricksen Fanger, age 93 of Clinton, formerly of Bryant and Delmar died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Mercy Living Center South in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 16th at Ascension Lutheran Church in Goose Lake. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home and from, 9:30 A.M. until the service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Anna was born near Almont, Iowa on December 30, 1917, the daughter of Leonard and Pauline (Ketelsen Gregersen) Henricksen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Anna married Harry J. Fanger on February 17, 1937 at St. John Lutheran Church in Clinton. Harry died on March 28, 1992.They farmed in the Bryant area for 30 years and then near Delmar. She worked as a head cook in the Maquoketa area for a number of years. In December 1986 they retired and moved to Clinton.
Anna was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a 4-H leader for 20 years, served on the church board in various positions for 8 years. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, bingo, doing puzzles, visiting with relatives and neighbors and making quilts. She made many for her family and for the church.
Anna is survived by two daughters, Marjorie (Gary) Rathman of Grand Mound and Marilyn (Scott) Spangler of Franklin Grove, IL; seven grandchildren, Angela Rathman, Carol (Donald) Wentworth, Beth (Jason) Singer, Melinda (Jon) Ternus, Melissa (Dave) Baum, Zachary (Lesly) Spangler and Alecia Spangler; nine great grandchildren; Laura Wentworth, Cole Wentworth, Rachel Wentworth, Gretchen Ternus, Owen Ternus, Madeline Baum, Lillian Baum, Dane Singer and Evelyn Singer; a daughter-in-law Nola Fanger of Clinton; two sister-in-laws, Lucille and Jean of Clinton and a brother-in-law Roland Drury of Miles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Carl Ray; two sisters, Delores Drury and Harriet Petersen two brothers, Carl and Leonard.
