DES MOINES — Robert Dodd, 81, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Bob was born August 21, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois to Lorin and Frances (Mathews) Dodd, the second of nine children. He was raised in Clinton, Iowa and graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport. Bob moved to Des Moines in 1977 and worked as a controller in manufacturing.

He enjoyed reading, “computing” and taking movies and videos throughout his life. Bob’s greatest passion was his 13 grandchildren lovingly called “humbugs.” He was very involved with his grandchildren’s activities and loved being there to encourage them.

Bob is survived by his wife of 17 years, Carolyn; his children, Kathy (Keith) Wunder of West Des Moines, Mary (Curt) Waterman of Cedar Rapids, Beth (Dan) Forbes of Boise, Idaho, Linda (Marvin) Bennett of West Des Moines and Jean (Charlie) Neibergall of Urbandale; daughter-in-law, Diane Dodd of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; his grandchildren, Eric Schade, Brandon (Kim) Forbes, Megan (Jeff) DePoorter, Matthew Dodd, Clay Wunder, Katie Forbes, Michael (Melody) Dodd, Aaron Bennett, Emily (Evan Neise) Waterman, Anthony Bennett, Nick Neibergall, Clifton Waterman, and Abby Neibergall; and his great-granddaughter, Karissalyn Neise; his siblings, Annette Hunt of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joe (Rose) Dodd of Cincinnati, Ohio, Don (Teresa) Dodd of Riverside, California, Dorothy (Ed) Oliver of Zephyr Hills, Florida, and John (Barb) Dodd of Clinton; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, David, and his siblings, Richard, Mary, and Jim.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lymphoma Society.
