Mr. Edmond J. Noel, 97, DeWitt, died early Tuesday morning, March 15, 2011 at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, DeWitt.

He was born June 6, 1913 in St. Donatus, to John and Josephine Noel. Ed married Euphrosenia Yoerger February 5, 1934 in Springbrook. In the early years, he worked as a hired farmhand and worked for Dubuque Packing for a few years. In the spring of 1945 Ed began farming at Calamus until moving to DeWitt in 1967. He was yard foreman at Eclipse Lumber Yard until retirement. His wife preceded him in death on November 21, 2001.

Ed was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and rug making.

Surviviving are children, Virgil Noel, Wheatland, Edmond R. (Mary) Noel, Wheatland, Robert (Julie) Noel, Davenport, Mary Jo (Ray) Wiese, Lowden, Nancy (Pete) Berry, Davenport, Sandra (Dan) Huber, Webster City; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Ed was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin, Kelly, Mark and Andy Noel, Matthew Wiese and Jesse and Jerimie Huber. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Noel and Mitchell Wiese.
