Mrs. D. Joyce Dies In West; Services Here
Funeral services will be held here Saturday or Monday for Mrs. David G. Joyce of Chicago, who died early Tuesday morning in Palm Springs, Calif., where she had been spending the winter. The body will be brought to the Pape funeral home here, following services in Chicago Saturday. Burial will be in the Joyce family lot in Oakland cemetery. The Rev. Frederic G. Williams, pastor of Grace Episcopal church, will conduct the service here.
Mrs. Joyce was the widow of the late David Joyce II, son of William T. Joyce, Clinton pioneer lumberman who began business here and later expanded his holdings to include interests in Nebraska, Louisiana and other cities in Iowa.
Mrs. Joyce was born March 7, 1889 in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of William E. and Sarah Rudolph. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Beatrice C. Joyce and Mrs. Leland Johnson, both of Chicago, and a brother, William Rudolph, also of Chicago.
Preceding her in death was her husband, David G. Joyce, in 1937. His burial was in Clinton, as was also that of his brother, Stanley, in 1944.
Mrs. Joyce controlled all the extensive Joyce interests. She had never been a resident of Clinton. Her husband was born and reared here, and both were well known to many Clinton residents. Mrs. Joyce, who had suffered from heart trouble, died in her sleep in Palm Springs, Calif., where she had been with friends since December.
