Richard D. Jewell, Sr.

Richard Dale Jewell, Sr., 83, of Clinton died Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Visitation will be 9:00 am until the service hour at the funeral home.

Richard D. Jewell was born April 16, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Lester and Esther (Bundy) Jewell. He married Vilas T. Ostrander, she died September 2, 2001.

He joined the United States Navy when he was 17. Serving from 1944 to 1946. He worked for the Street Department for the City of Clinton for over 30 years retiring in 1989.

Richard was a decorated Navy Veteran and a former member of the VFW.

He is survived by his children: Richard D. (Teresa) Jewell, Jr. of Clinton and Judy Jewell of Las Vegas, Nevada; 7 grandchildren: Sam, Dawn, Elizabeth, Matt, Aaron, Wendy, and Crystal; 11 great grandchildren; and one sister: Alice Jewel of Clinton.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Memorial may be made to the family.
