Detlef ANDERSEN, aged 52, well known Clinton county resident, and for the past three years residing at 2312 North Eighth street, ended his life Sunday afternoon by shooting himself in the left side, penetrating the heart. Death must have been instantaneous. The act was committed in the basement of his home, where his body was found by his son, Alva ANDERSEN, late Sunday afternoon.

The body was in a half sitting posture leaning against the coal bin. A shot gun, which he kept in the house, rested in his lap. The nature of the wound showed that the muzzle of the gun had been pressed tightly against the body when fired. Chief of Police Peter Oster visited the scene. It is likely that no inquest will be held.

Mr. ANDERSEN and his family visited Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. Henry EGGERS, and family at Andover. After the noonday meal Mr. ANDERSEN talked his son Alva to take him to town. En route he complained somewhat of not feeling well. However, he was seen in Main avenue about 2 o’clock, going towards his home. No one was at the home as his family remained at the EGGERS house.

A neighbor heard a shot in the afternoon but did not think anything of it at the time, and it was not until his son Alva ANDERSEN returned that the tragedy was discovered.

The body was removed to the F. N. PAPE Undertaking parlors and later to the home.
