Lawrence Alfred Stuedemann
(September 7, 1922 - October 4, 2010)

Lawrence A. Stuedemann, 88, Elvira, died Monday afternoon, October 4, 2010 at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, DeWitt.

Mr. Stuedemann was born September 7, 1922, to Alfred W. and Frieda (Rockrohr) Stuedemann. He graduated from Elvira High School in 1941. Lawrence was drafted into the Navy during World War II where he served for two years. On August 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dolores Ann Horn at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. The couple purchased the family farm where they raised cattle, hogs and corn, working side by side. After retirement in 1985, he then worked for McCulloh Trucking and C & J Farm Service for several years. Dolores preceded Lawrence in death November 24, 2003. In September of 2004, he moved to Amber Ridge where he called home for six years.

He was a lifelong member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. Lawrence enjoyed flying, was a licensed pilot and purchased an airplane with six friends. Lawrence and Dolores were members of a neighborhood card club where they played 500 for over 40 years.

Surviving are daughters, Diane (Mrs. Curtis) Claeys, Bliedorn, and Denise (Mrs. William) Ryan, Columbus Junction; grandchildren, Nicole (Steve) Jonas, Boone, Kendall (Candace) Claeys, Calamus, Andrea Ryan, DeWitt, and Lisa (Zach) Klocksiem, Gillette, Wyoming; great-grandchildren, Claire and Gabriel Jonas; a brother, Howard Stuedemann, Atascadero, California; sisters-in-law, Darlene Stuedemann and Betty Stuedemann, Clinton; several nieces and nephews as well as all of his loving Amber Ridge Family.

In addition to his wife, Dolores, Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Earl and Walter, infant sister, Irene and sisters-in-law, Valeria and Donna Stuedemann.

Friends may call at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2010. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2010, in Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jane E. Rothman will officiate. Burial and military rites will follow at Elvira Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, Amber Ridge and DeWitt Hospital Foundation.

Pallbearers will be Kendall Claeys, Steve Jonas, Zach Klocksiem, David Larsen, Ray, Ross and Reed Stuedemann and Alan Feagins. Honorary pallbearers will be Orville Meyer, Don Paasch, Don Stolk and Larry Roeder.
