Marvin Nissen

Marvin I. Nissen, 86, of Clinton, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Services will be 10:30am, Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-8:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Following the visitation the body will be cremated.

Marvin Ingwersen Nissen was born on October 3, 1923 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Christian and Ella (Ingwersen) Nissen. He married Shirley Whitmer on June 19, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Marv was a 1942 graduate of Clinton High School. He later attended Cornell College.

Marv was employed in the planning department at EI Dupont for 38 years retiring in 1985.

Marv was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church serving as church council treasurer for many years and by selling tickets for its annual Sauerkraut Supper. He was active in the Men’s Group at the church as well. He was a past President of 1st Gateway Credit Union and also served as the treasurer of the Southeast Synod Men in Mission.

Marv is survived by his wife: Shirley of Clinton; two daughters: Lisa VanStetsen of Danville, California, Theresa Nissen of Evanston, Illinois, and one son Brent (Beth) Nissen of Columbia, Illinois; 3 grandchildren; and his sister: Doris Brinkman of Albany, Illinois.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
