David Steen

David A. Steen, 67, of Clinton, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Monday, August 30, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Dan Pool officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Totten, David Huffman, Kent Jurgersen, Jim Tiejens, Aaron Taylor, and Russell Steen. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hammer, Keith DeVries, SGM, Brent Jurgersen, Terry Doescher, and grandsons Ryan Clement and Noah Clement. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00-4:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory.

David Allan Steen was born July 30, 1943, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Christian and Zola (Webb) Steen. He married Janet Doescher-Clement on May 1, 1970 in Clinton, Iowa.

He was graduate of Elvira High School. He later was inducted into the United States Army serving during the Vietnam era in Germany.

He was employed at Dupont for over 30 years as a machine operator.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, remodeling his home, maintaining his yard and mostly he enjoyed his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife: Janet of Clinton; two sons: Joel (Thalia) Clement of Clinton, Jon (Joy) Clement of Clinton; one daughter: Janelle Huffman of Clinton; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; a brother: Fred (Lynn) Steen of Colona, Illinois, one sister: Barbara (Keith) DeVries of Ackley, Iowa, his mother-in-law: Alta Doescher of Clinton; sister-in-law: Helen Steen of Clinton; sister and brother-in-law Ronald and LaVonne Jurgersen, brother and sister-in-law Leon and Judy Doescher; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Joni Totten; a grandson: Tyler Huffman, one brother and one sister.

Memorials can be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church. David gave the gift of life to others through his death by being an organ and tissue donor.
