VERSTREET, MCGOVERN, BOYLE

The Advertiser Monday December 31, 1923 p. 9 The funeral of Mrs. Anne Verstreet was held from St. Joseph's chruch Friday. The pastor,Rev. J.J. Nelson, officiated. The remains were interred beside those of her husband, the late August Verstreet, in St. Joseph's cemetery. Pall bearers were: John Smith, Peter DePape, Moline, Ill., Patrick McDonnell, John Hines, Jerry O'Connell, and Joseph Noel of Noel Station. Miss Anne McGovern, daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth McGovern, was born at Ennisfallen, County Fermanah, Ireland, December 24, 1836, and died at her home southwest of DeWitt December 26, aged 87 years and two days. Mr. and Mrs. McGovern and family emigrated to American and for two years were resident of Pennsylvania. They moved to Davenport, Iowa, where Anne was united in marriage at August Verstreet at St. Margaret's church by the Rev. Father Cosgrove, aftwards bishop of the Davenport diocese. The young couple lived in Scott county for six years, when they moved to their farm southwest of town, where they have since resided. Eight children were born in the union, three of whom preceded this death. Those surviving are Mrs. C.H. Boyle of Davenport, Mrs. Daniel Carey, living east of DeWitt, Patrick, Nellie and Tessie at home. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. James McCabe of Sioux City, by eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a large number of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Verstreet was one of the pioneers of this locality and endeared herself to a host of friends. Thos from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. and Mrs. C.H. Boyle, and daughters Nellie, Gertrude and Margaret, Thomas O'Brien and Peter Duffy, all of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. St. Onge of Moline, Ill., Mrs. and Mrs. Joseph Boyle, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Anna Savage, Woodbine, Iowa, Miss Florence Stewart, Sioux City, Mrs. Vanvooren of Moline.
