Eddie Kaszinski

Mr. Edmund J. “Eddie” Kaszinski, 99, DeWitt, died early Friday morning, September 10, 2010 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mr. Kaszinski was born February 12, 1911 at rural Charlotte, Iowa, to Theodore and Martha (Pestka) Kaszinski. On February 28, 1940, he married the former Erma Jackson in Grand Mound. Eddie and Erma farmed in the rural Bryant and DeWitt areas, until retirement in 1975. Shortly thereafter, they moved to DeWitt. Erma preceded Eddie in death on September 20, 2000 following 60 happy years of marriage.

Eddie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt, and was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He greatly enjoyed music and dancing. Eddie loved to play the accordian and harmonica and would often play for the residents at Westwing and other area care facilities. He also loved to play cards and really enjoyed poker night with the guys.

Surviving are a sister, Helen Connell, Bettendorf, numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Erma, Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Stanley, Ben and Ray and a sister, Frances Rickertsen. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at St. Jospeh Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Church with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly presiding. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, or DeWitt Hospital Foundation.

Pallbearers will be Bob Thiel, John Thiel, Jack Tietjens, Mark Rickertsen, Joe Connell and Dave Kaszinski. Honorary pallbearers will be Patricia and Gene Frey, Tom Casad and Al and Mary Kittleson.

Eddie's family would like to offer their special thanks to the staff of Westwing Place for the wonderful care provided to him.
