Verne “Nick” Henry Drews, 81, of Clinton passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center – North campus with his family by his side. Funeral services will be Monday, July 26, 2010, at 10:30a.m. at the Church of Visitation in Camanche with Father Richard Okumu officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, July 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Drive. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Verne was born May 1, 1929, in Clinton, IA, to Henry M. and Marie (Thielen) Drews. He attended Lyons High School graduating in 1947. He graduated from Iowa State University. He was in the Marines from 1952 – 1954. Verne married Ruth Lemke, April 25, 1953, at St. Irenaeus Church in Clinton. He was an accountant, comptroller and VP at Clinton Corn, VP of Finance, Research and Development for Nabisco retiring in 1989.

Verne’s fraternal affiliations were as follows: Delta Chi, member of the Amvets Post 28, lifetime Commander for 10 years, past State Amvets member 2001 – 2002, Moose Lodge 363, Eagle’s Club, Clinton Bowling Association and past president, Board of Directors for Clinco Community Credit Union, Dock Commission and the Gateway United Fund.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; 2 sons, David (Angie) Drews, Clinton; Thomas (Jane) Drews, Iowa City; grandchildren, Rebekah, Bradley and Derek Drews, Sarah Drews, Emily Drews and Daniel Drews, 1 great-granddaughter; Makennah Rursch, 1 sister, Donna (Norman) Wessels, Clinton; 3 sister in laws, Mary (Duane) Willey, Lakewood, CO; Bernadine (George) Dehner, Clinton; Phyllis (Bill) Warren, Clinton; 5 brothers in law; Reinhard Lemke, Clinton; John (Ruth) Lemke, Clinton; Karl (Jean) Lemke, Clinton; Roger (Judy) Lemke, Cedar Rapids, IA; Phil (Karlyn) Lemke, Albany, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Verne was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, his son Roger, Sister-in-law, Janet Lemke and his nephew, George Lemke.
