Eugene E. Wendel
(November 15, 1923 - July 22, 2010)

Eugene E. Wendel, 86, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of DeWitt, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, from complications of Parkinson's Disease.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, DeWitt.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt.

Gene was born in DeWitt Nov. 15, 1923, to Edward J. and Helen Yegge Wendel. He graduated from St. Joseph High School.

Gene served in the 29th Army infantry in World War II. He worked with military government in Europe until 1947, when he returned to DeWitt.

He owned and operated Wendel Oil Co., with his father and brother, Dick, until he retired in 1989.

Gene married Jean L. Zutz May 3, 1958.

He was a member of the DeWitt Planning and Zoning Commission, the board of directors at First Central State Bank and Eugene McManus Post 238 of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Karen (Mark) Schroeder of Westminster, Colo., and Ann (Steve) Merrell of Boca Raton; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.
