Clinton, Iowa - Coyla L. Merrill age 70 of Clinton, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 9:00 am Saturday at the Second Reformed Church in Fulton, IL. Visitation will be held Friday 4 – 8 pm at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Nathan and Kelvin Decker, Brandon Merrill, Dennis Kelley, Terry Wacker, and Rich Dean. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Norman and William Ernst.

Coyla was born on Sept. 8, 1939 in Scotch Grove, IA, the daughter of Milo and Bessie (Head) Wacker. She graduated from Delmar High School in 1957. She married Henry Merrill on Jan. 11, 1959 in Maquoketa. Coyla worked for over 20 years at the Clinton Community Schools as an assistant cook and para-educator, retiring in 2002. She did some local modeling for K’s Studio in Davenport. She was a member of the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, where she sang with the Sunbeams, active with Congregational Life and Willing Workers. She was a member of the AMVETS Auxiliary and CURVES of Clinton. She enjoyed sewing, boating, fishing, dancing, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Coyla is survived by her husband, Henry of Clinton; two daughters, Coral (Rod) Decker and Vicki (Keith) Norman both of Fulton, IL; a son, Dean (Brenda) Merrill of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Kelvin, Brandon, Samuel, Sydney, Sadie, and Sara; a great granddaughter, Payton; four step grandchildren, Sarah, Erica, Rhea, and Karley; six step great grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Wacker of Newton, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Online condolences may be left at
