Clinton - Benito J. Torres age 88 of Clinton died Friday, April 9, 2010 at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 12th at Sacred Heart Chapel, 312 So. 4th St. Clinton. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Benito was born in Savanna, IL on April 3, 1922, the son of Arnulfo and Soledad Cuellar Torres. He attended Savanna schools. Benito served with the U.S. Army in the 123rd Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theater. His campaigns included Luzon in the Philippines and Morotai, New Guinea. Benito married Elwanda Ward on April 4, 1954 in St. John Baptist Church in Savanna. Benito was employed with Clinton Corn Processing Company for over 27 years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the Moline VFW. Benito enjoyed bowling and was an avid sports fan.

Benito is survived by his wife Elwanda and a brother, Elpidio “Pete” (Mary) Torres of Thomson, IL He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
