John Hensel

John Howard Hensel, 64 of Clinton, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 13, 2010 at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton. Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

John was born April 7, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Hans and Martha (Wolff) Hensel. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. He was a Clinton High School graduate.

John worked for Steiner?s grocery store during high school, after closing the store he worked for Paetz Grocery Store as a baker in the bakery department for 18 years. He also worked for Cottage Bakery in Fulton, Illinois for several years. John then farmed west of Sabula, Iowa for 10 years. He owned the Midway Tavern and Jack?s Tavern and had been a guard for Sanitol at Bemis Clysar, Inc. John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Club 705, Moose Lodge 363, since 2001 and the AMVETS of Clinton. He enjoyed horseback riding, country living and good movies.

Those left to honor his memory include his very special friend and companion of 27 years, Dianne McCready, a brother, Herman Hensel and family, Sisters, Gertrude Dalldorf and Janet Wagner and husband Karl, and Sister-in-law, Phyllis Petersen and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers, Paul Hensel and Vernon Hensel, two nephews, Jimmy and Eddie Hensel, a niece, Martha O'Brien and brother-in-law, Earnest Dalldorf.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's or the American Cancer Society.
