(June 25, 1920 - November 9, 2009)

Funeral Mass for Mr. Peter Joseph Farren, 89, DeWitt, Iowa will be at 10:30 Friday, November 13, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, Iowa. The Rev. Paul Connolly will officiate and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa and include military rites. Visitation will be held at the church gathering space from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009. Knights of Columbus honor guard will recite the rosary at 7:30 p.m. and Sister Theresa will follow with a prayer service. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph’s School.
Pete passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Peter J. Farren was born on June 25th, 1920 in Long Grove, Iowa to Frank and Minnie (Elder) Farren. He was the youngest of 3 children and grew up in DeWitt, graduating from St. Joseph High School. He married Margaret “Margie” Russo in Philadelphia, PA on October 9, 1965. They were blessed with 44 years of marriage and one daughter, Melissa, his pride and joy.

Pete proudly served his country in the U.S. Army division during WWII South Pacific conflict. He then spent 30 years employed for the Rock Island Arsenal and more than 50 years as a Real Estate Broker in the DeWitt area. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the VFW, American Legion and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Pete was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Notre Dame fan. He enjoyed watching westerns and seemed to find a John Wayne movie whenever he turned on the television. He was a devoted husband and father. There never was a truer Irishman than he.

He is survived by his wife, Margie, DeWitt, Iowa and daughter, Melissa and her husband, Ivan Lewellen, Davenport, Iowa.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Agnes and Anne Theresa.
