Edith Luise Schnack
(February 14, 1930 - November 10, 2009)

Edith Luise (Mrs. Rolf) Schnack, 79, DeWitt, died Tuesday morning, November 10, 2009 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Mrs. Schnack was born February 14, 1930 in Lubeck, Germany to Paul and Alma (Frank) Schnack. She was educated in German Schools. On March 24, 1951, Edith was united in marriage to Rolf John Schnack in Kiel, Germany. The couple immigrated to America in March of 1957 with their two daughters, Heidi and Monica and were blessed with three more sons, Michael, Thomas and Rick. The couple resided in DeWitt, where Edith worked with Rolf in Schnack Piano Service. They went on to own E-Z Wash Laundromat for 17 years.

Edith received her Master Gardner Certification and worked at Selk's Greenhouse many years, until her retirement. The couple retired to Lake of the Ozarks and moved back to DeWitt, in 2003.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Some of her fondest memories were working with the ladies in the kitchen at Grace Camp. Edith loved her flowers as well as crocheting and reading. She loved children and always welcomed her children's friends into her home. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife and grandmother by her family and friends.

Surviving are her loving husband of 58 years, Rolf; children, Heidi (Garner) Mattingly, Ada, Oklahoma, Dr. Monica Schnack, Bloomington, Illinois, Thomas (Christy) Schnack, Arizona City, Arizona, Rick (Connie) Schnack, DeWitt; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends, Vicky and Alex Pappas.

Preceding Edith in death are a son, Michael and her parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009 Service of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2009 in Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Timothy Carr officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be made to Westwing Place, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or Grace Lutheran Camp.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jon Mattingly and Cody Allen, as well as David Schnack, John Schnack, Lance Jorgensen and Bruce Yoerger.
