(November 25, 1956 - November 24, 2009)

Richard S. Yocum, 52, Long Grove, died Tuesday afternoon, November 24, 2009 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Richard Samuel Yocum was born November 25, 1956 in DeWitt, to Samuel and Irene (Gosch) Yocum. He was a life-long Long Grove area resident and was a 1976 graduate of North Scott High School. He was an environmentalist with PB Leiner of Davenport, for 26 years. Richard married Pamela Barstow on July 1, 1984 at St. Matthew Church, Davenport.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, McCausland and was a former member of the McCausland Jaycee's. Richard loved to camp, work on the family farm, play cards and ride bikes. He enjoyed attending FFA events and comedy clubs, researching family history and attending dirt track races.

Survivors are his wife, Pam; his mother, Irene Yocum, DeWitt; sisters, Joyce (Jack) Nelson, DeWitt and Pam Yocum, Bettendorf; brothers, Jon (Susan) Yocum, Davenport, Dale Yocum, McCausland, and Larry (Mitzi) Yocum, Tipton; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dee and Bob Barstow; sister-in-law, Lori Stephens and brother-in-law, Mark Barstow; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Richard in death were his father, Sam; his grandparents; and many aunts and uncles. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, McCausland with the Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the McCausland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tony Stephens, Ryan Nelson, Kayla Yocum, Jessi Yocum, Kyle Yocum, Alexis Yocum, Lloyd Claussen and Paul Bruns.
