Don Salyars, Sr.
(January 22, 1942 - March 26, 2010)

Don Salyars, Sr., 68, DeWitt, died Friday afternoon, March 26, 2010 in his home.

Donald Lloyd Salyars, Sr. was born January 22, 1942 in Guthrie Center, Iowa, to Lyle and Lois (Triplett) Salyars. He married LaDon Voelkers, December 20, 1959 and later married Linda Ryan, March 7, 1981 in DeWitt. Don worked for Scott County Secondary Roads Department for 21 years, retiring in 2004. He still continued to do seasonal work for Scott County.

Don enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, gardening and being with his faithful sidekick, Ginger.

Surviving are his loving wife, Linda; children and their spouses, Vanessa and Jerry McNeely, Long Grove, Donald, Jr. and Joanne Salyars, DeWitt, Eric and Beth Salyars, Eldridge, Julia and Chris Foote, DeWitt, Kymm Hunter, Tipton; grandchildren, Angie McNeely, Jereme McNeely, TJ Salyars, Alexis Hunter, Megan Salyars, Allison Foote, Erica Salyars, Christian Foote, Haley Salyars and Jaden Kistler; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tyson and Jenna Decker and Christopher and Kayla McNeely; three brothers, Lowell (Donna) Salyars, Rochester, Iowa, Robert Salyars, Camanche, and Garey (Karen) Salyars, Stanwood; a sister, Rosie (Gene) Bowdish, Davenport.

Preceding Don in death were his parents, a daughter, Pamela Jo, brothers, Charles and Billy and sisters, Mary and Betty.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2010 in the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be TJ Salyars, Christian Foote, Jereme McNeely, Chris Foote, Jerry McNeely, Jack Salves, Kevin Allensworth and Joe Ford.
