Opal Leora Ray was born in Isadora, Missouri on February 7, 1920, the daughter of James and Laura Ray. She married Marvin Glover of Bedford, Iowa, in San Luis Obispo, California on July 12, 1943 shortly before he left for overseas to serve in World War II. She lived in Long Beach, California for the two years of her husband's overseas military service after she had participated in a government program training young women for defense work in Maryville, Missouri, making small engine parts. She and the other women she trained with were known as the "Rosie the Riveter" bunch. After the war she and Marvin moved to Center Junction, Iowa, where they managed the locker plant. Over the years she and Marvin became parents of 3 daughters: Marcia Ann, Mary Louise, and Marla Rae. In 1952, they moved to Toronto, Iowa where they owned and operated Toronto Locker Service until 1966. Opal returned to work at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1972 doing what she had been trained for back during World War II and retired from the Arsenal in 1984. She and Marvin spent many wonderful years on their acreage in Toronto where they enjoyed raising both bountiful vegetable and flower gardens. She also spent many hours bird-watching and loved being outdoors. After Marvin's death on November 4, 2003, she sold their acreage and moved to Lincolnway Assisted Living in Wheatland where she spent her last years very comfortably. Opal spent many hours during her retirement years making handmade quilts for each of her daughters and grandchildren. She had just finished piecing together a quilt several days before her death. Opal loved her church, had a very deep faith and attended weekly Bible study. She also enjoyed participating in several card clubs. Opal was a marvelous piano player; she had never taken a piano lesson and played solely by ear. She also cherished the times when she was able to return to her childhood home in Missouri. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.

Opal is survived by her three daughters Marcia Glover, of Elma,Iowa, Mary Schanze, of Dewitt, Iowa, and Marla (Dannie) Bell, of Chatsworth,Georgia; six granddaughters Lori Dalton, Lisa Roether, Michelle and Melissa Schanze, Meagan Weaver, and Sally Bell; six great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Ridge and Helen Roach; and Brother Wilbur Ray all of Grant City, Missouri. She is also survived by her dear friends June Wentworth and Elfreida Kroemer.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents, six sisters and three brothers, and her son-in-law Michael Schanze.

The family wishes to acknowledge he compassionate and loving care she received while in Intensive Care at Genesis East. Opal was a strong and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family and a faithful friend to many. She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Mom. Our love goes with you.
