Hilda E. Prusia

Wheatland, IA. Hilda E. Prusia, age 87, died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Dewitt Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. Hilda was born on April 2, 1921 in Hale, Iowa, to Herman and Louise (Behnke) Hans. Hilda married Vernon Boyer on May 30, 1941 in Dewitt. Vernon died June 6, 1971 and Hilda later married Lloyd Prusia, on April 27, 1996.

Vernon and Hilda owned and operated Boyer Trucking for over 30 years. Vernon passed away in 1971 and she continued the business until her health failed. She worked at the Arrow Café in Lowden, helped her granddaughter Holly make decorated cakes and helped take care of her great-grandchildren. Hilda enjoyed playing cards, dancing, crafts, traveling, making delicious apple pies and cherished the time spent with her family. She was always energized and willing to lend a helping hand. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden, the Zion Ladies Evening Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, 3/30 Club and Senior Citizens.

Funeral services for Hilda Prusia will be held at Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10:30 am with Reverend Barbara Muhs officiating. Burial will follow at Lowden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm Sunday, July 13, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. In lieu of flowers donations may be to the following: 3/30 Club Clarence, Wheatland Ambulance, Zion United Church of Christ, or the Lowden Auxiliary Legion.

Hilda is survived by her husband, Lloyd of Wheatland; daughter Janis (Verlyn) Krafock of Lowden; two granddaughters Heidi Krafock of Lowden and Holly (Joe) Loussaert of Long Grove; three great-grandsons Kyle, Connor, and Tanner of Long Grove; two sisters Evelyn Dodds of Maquoketa and Elsie Knutson of Dewitt; brother George (Marvella) Hans of Ankeny; step-brother Fred (Bernice) Weideman of Clinton; sisters in-law Edna Hans of Maquoketa and Clara Nelson of Dewitt, Mildred Fatchett of Dewitt; brother in-laws Melvin (Vivian) Boyer of Dewitt, Guy (Joan) Boyer of Davenport and many special nieces and nephews.

Hilda was proceeded in death by her parents; husband Vernon; brother Carl Hans; brothers in-law Floyd Prusia, Leonard Dodds, Sylvester Knutson, LaVern Ketelsen and Merle Boyer; two sisters Gladys Prusia and Edith Rorah; and sister in-law Dorothy Ketelsen.

The family of Mrs. Prusia would like to thank Wheatland Manor, Lowden Family Clinic, Genesis Medical Center of Davenport and Dewitt, Wheatland and Clarence Ambulance, Dr. Jon Robken and staff, and Dr. Burt Clinic of Chiropractic and staff for all their support throughout the years.
