CLINTON — John H. Pelisek, age 78, of Clinton, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton.

As John requested, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Pape Funeral Home. Following the services family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life at Doyle’s Tavern, 252 Main Ave. in Clinton.

John was born in Tama, Iowa, on July 28, 1931, the son of Henry and Lillian Hanzelka Pelisek. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Clinton Community College for two years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John married Marilyn Slapnicka on June 25, 1955, at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. John retired as supervisor in the mail room for the Clinton Herald in 1996 after 40 years of service. He was a former member of St. Mary’s Church, the Clinton Jaycee’s, Kiwanis Evening Club and Mardi Gras Committee.

He was a member of the AMVETS, the American Legion and the Clinton County Society Horse Show Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

John is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and a brother-in-law, Carl (Joan) Slapnicka of Camanche.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Richard Beck.
