Charlotte — Alfrieda D. (Mrs. John F.) Gluesing, 96, Charlotte, died Monday morning, March 22, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt. Alfrieda Dorthea Ploog Gluesing was born March 20, 1914, at Andover, Iowa, to John and Frances Kruse Ploog. She was baptized at home on August 23, 1914, and confirmed on April 10, 1927. Alfrieda was united in marriage on September 11, 1935, to John Gluesing at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1999. Alfrieda lived all of her life in Charlotte until moving to DeWitt in 2000. She was a homemaker and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was an honorary member of the Ladies Aid and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Alfrieda enjoyed visits with her family, reading and watching the Hawkeyes and Cubs. She loved flowers, especially African violets. Survivors include her daughter, Frances (Kenneth) Beer, DeWitt; sons, Harlan (Ellen) Gluesing and Wayne (Becky) Gluesing both of Clinton; eight grandchildren, Sheryl and Daniel Zinda, Pamela and Barry Williams, Robert and Connie Beer, Valerie and Eric Schaeffer, Corey and Dawn Gluesing, Erin and Aaron Hoelscher, Emily and Damien Snyder and Amanda and Josh Corwin; 17 great-grandchildren. Preceding Alfrieda in death in addition to her husband were her parents, four brothers, Edward, Vernon, John and Ray Ploog and two sisters, Hilda Ploog and Emma Ketelsen. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010. A service of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte, with the Rev. Terry Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, rural Bryant. Condolences may be expressed and a photo tribute viewed at www.schultzfueralhomes.com. Death date: March 22, 2010
