CLINTON — CLINTON — John H. Pelisek, age 78, of Clinton, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton.

There will be no visitation or service. As John requested, cremation rites will be accorded with a memorial service to be held at a later date. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

John was born in Tama, Iowa on July 28, 1931, the son of Henry and Lillian Hanzelka Pelisek. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Clinton Community College for two years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

John married Marilyn Slapnicka on June 25, 1955, at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. John retired as supervisor in the mail room for the Clinton Herald in 1996 after 40 years of service. He was a former member of St. Mary’s Church, the Clinton Jaycee’s, Kiwanis Evening Club and Mardi Gras Committee.

He was a member of the AMVETS, the American Legion and the Clinton County Society Horse Show Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

John is survived by his wife, Marilyn and a brother-in-law Carl (Joan) Slapnicka of Camanche.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Richard Beck. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society or the Clinton Public Library. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
