Clinton HeraldCLINTON — THOMSON, Ill. — Henry A. Wiersema, 82, of Thomson, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton, Ill. Pastor Wayne Wiersema, of Gateway Faith Fellowship, Fulton, will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Fulton Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton.
Memorials can be made to Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton; Thomson American Legion – Donald Ashpole Post 1025; and the Thomson Fire Protection District.
He was born July 7, 1927, in Fulton to John “Jack” and Katherine (Haan) Wiersema.
He was educated in the Otter Bluff School of rural Whiteside County. He married Irma J. Hoogheem on March 20, 1953, in Fulton.
Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.
Henry engaged in farming in the rural Thomson area from 1954 until 1977. He then was employed by CF Industries – Albany, Ill., until his retirement.
Henry was a member Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton; Thomson American Legion – Donald Ashpole Post 1025; and the Carroll County Farm Bureau. Henry greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also took a great deal of pride in maintaining his farm equipment and enjoyed wildlife, especially feeding the birds.
Survivors include his wife, Irma; three daughters, Deb (Don) Robinson, Prophetstown, Ill., Linda (Craig) Robinson, Thomson, and Kristi (Stan) Sliva, Itasca, Ill.; a son, Jim (Shirley) Wiersema, Mount Carroll, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Katherine Smith, Fulton, Delores (Don) Goodridge, Fulton, and Patsy (Gary) Bechtel, Morrison, Ill.; five brothers, Edwin Wiersema, Fulton, John (Bea) Wiersema, Fulton, Kenneth Wiersema, Fulton, Vernon (Donna) Wiersema, Houston, Texas, and Steven (Gloria) Wiersema, Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Thomas Wiersema.
