CLINTON — Fred L. Lampe, 87, of Clinton, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Alverno Healthcare Facility. Per Fred’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial of the cremains will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Fred’s family would like to thank the staff at the Alverno and everyone at Genesis Hospice for all their care and generosity over the past few months.

Fred Loyal Lampe was born on October 11, 1922, in Savanna, IL, the son of Loyal and Elvira (Bender) Lampe. He married Alma P. Henry on May 1, 1947, in Clinton; she died July 29, 1992. He later married Jean Yahn on October 27, 1994.

He attended Lyons High School. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. He had been employed as a blacksmith with Allied Steel Bridgeworks for many years.

Fred was a Ham Radio operator. He liked to sing and play the harmonica. He was a sports fan, bowler and especially enjoyed playing horseshoes.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Clinton; one daughter, Karren “Sue” Ketelsen of Dallas, TX; 2 granddaughters, Nicole (Ed) Lampe-Burk of Strongsville, OH, and Shelly (Mike) Carroll of Auburn, WA; one great-granddaughter, Kaylie Carroll of Auburn, WA; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lampe of Lakewood, CO; 4 stepchildren, Robert (Mary) Yahn of Mesa, AZ, Donald (Kathy Kilburg) Yahn of Clinton, John (Lesli) Yahn of Clinton and James (Karla) Yahn of Clinton; one sister, Laneda “Detes” Greenwalt of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma; one son, Joe Lampe; one brother, Richard Lampe; and 3 sisters, Roberta Lampe, Thelma Van Zuiden and Ardella Kramer.
