Clinton HeraldDEWITT — Douglas Kenneth Norcross, 61, DeWitt, died early Tuesday morning, March 9, 2010, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island, Illinois.
He was born April 23, 1948, in Moline, Illinois, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Hagg) Norcross. He graduated from Orion High School and attended Black Hawk College from which he received an associate’s degree in industrial electronics. Doug served in the United States Navy doing two tours of duty in Vietnam on the USS Hassayampa. He was employed by John Deere Cylinder Division, Moline, from August of 1974 until October 2007 and retired as a supervisor following 33 years of service. Doug married Nanelle Fowler in 1973. He later married Laura Smith Wold, April 23, 2005, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt.
He attended Clinton Evangelical Free Church. Doug’s favorite hobby was restoring his 1976 white corvette. He was an avid racquetball and softball player, jogger and bicyclist. Doug's high school football team was recently inducted into the Orion High School Hall of Fame.
Surviving are his wife, Laura; children, Samuel (Heidi) Norcross, Daniel Norcross and Johanna Norcross all of Moline, Josh Wold, Watervliet, Michigan, and Jared Wold, DeWitt; a granddaughter, Emma Grace Brown; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathi and Jerry Colman, Coal Valley, Illinois.
Preceding Doug in death were his parents.
The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, in Clinton Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Tom Loyola will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery.
