Savanna, Ill. — Alverda P. Libberton, age 86, of Savanna, Illinois, previously of Mt. Carroll, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois, with the Reverend Mark Harkness of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Alverda’s honor.

Alverda was born on November 12, 1923, the daughter of Peter and Christine (Schaefer) Petersen in Clinton, Iowa. She graduated from Fulton High School, class of 1944. On December 28, 1946, Alverda married Alvin Libberton in Mt. Carroll.

Alverda enjoyed caring for her family, cooking, crocheting and bowling with friends. Most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and family gatherings. Alverda worked at Eaton Corporation, Savanna, from 1965 until retirement in 1989.

Alverda will be dearly missed by her husband, Alvin, of Mt. Carroll; a son, Glenn Libberton of Savanna and a daughter, Betty Randall of Eagan, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Michael) Conlin of Spokane, Washington, and Heather (Keith) Miller of South Elgin, Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Katherine, Danielle, Devin and Eamon; two brothers, Donald (Phyllis) Petersen of Clinton and Leroy (Linda) Petersen of Murray, Kentucky; three sisters, Marcella Petersen of Morrison, Illinois, Jane Moens of Geneseo, Illinois, and Vera Hammerand of Bellevue, Iowa.

Alverda was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Pete and Wayne; two sisters, Mildred Costello and Gertrude Landon. Online condolences may also be left for the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
