DeWitt — Joan B. Carr, age 58, of DeWitt, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13th, at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow the funeral.

Joan was born in Berwyn, IL, on March 7, 1952, the daughter of Frank and Marguerite Hoekstra Vander Meulen. She attended Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL, her freshman and sophomore years, Riverside-Brookfield High School her junior year and graduated from Fulton High School in 1970. She attended nurses training in Hinsdale, IL.

Joan was first employed with Fidelity Life in Fulton, later at Kmart in Downer’s Grove, IL, then at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison and at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton as a CNA for eight years where she provided loving care to all her patients. Joan married Eddie L. Carr on August 22, 1981, in Fulton. She attended the First Reformed Church in Fulton and later the Fulton Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed selling AVON, ceramics and word puzzles. She was known for her very accurate memory and was very hard to beat in the board games she played with her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother being very devoted to her family.

Joan is survived by her husband, Eddie, who provided such special care for the many years of Joan’s health concerns; a son, Nathan (Jessica) Carr of DeWitt; a daughter, Sarah Carr (Roger Dawson) of DeWitt; a grandson, Jacob Leo Carr; her mother, Marguerite Vander Meulen of Morrison; two brothers, Edward (Joyce) Vander Meulen of Morrison and David (Barbara) Vander Meulen of Westmont, IL; and two sisters, Ann Kimmel of Platteville, WI, and Mary (Kevin) Robbins of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. Online condolences may be left atwww.papefh.com.
