CLINTON — Robert J. White, age 91, of Clinton, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4th, at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers will be his grandchildren.

Robert was born in Clinton on July 30, 1918, the son of George D. and Agnes P. Oak White. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1936 and later the Scovill Business College. He married Marilyn Miller on May 30, 1945, at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. Marilyn died on January 25, 2007. Robert’s career in banking at City National Bank, later First National Bank, spanned over 38 years. He held the position of senior vice president of First National Bank upon his retirement from banking on June 7, 1976. Robert went on to own and operate Bob White Realty for 23 years. He so enjoyed working in realty with his wife, Marilyn, and son, John.

Robert had so many abilities and talents. He designed the home he shared with his family for over 50 years and was an active builder on the project. His favorite pastime was writing short stories and he was so pleased when well over 40 were published in the Clinton Herald. A die hard Clintonian his entire life, he always said he just wanted to share his writing with all the people of Clinton.

Robert is survived by his loving companion, Doris Christensen; his daughter, Julie White Chan of Hinsdale, IL; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Andy and Daniel; three stepgrandchildren, Tony, David and Beth; several stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, William G. (Vera) Miller Jr. of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Stoecken of Eureka, CA; 1st cousins, Jean (Ron) Koehn of Camanche and Jim (Joan) Oak of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a son, John, in 2004.

In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family would like you to reach out to someone special as Robert did throughout his life. He will always be remembered. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
