Richard Welsh 08/15/2001 HENDERSVILLE, N.C. -- Richard Welsh, Hendersonville, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House, after a period of declining health. He was born in Clinton, Iowa, a son of the late Edward J. Welsh and Marjorie (McCormack) Welsh and had resided in Arlington Heights, Ill., and Hanover, Mass., before moving to Hendersonville. He attended St. Mary's High School, Clinton, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science in business administration degree. He was a chief underwriter for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., retiring in 1992. A veteran of the Army, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mary "Joan" Welsh; a son, Douglas A. Welsh, Abington, Mass.; a daughter, Laura Shea, and her husband, Timothy, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a brother, William Welsh, and his wife, Carolyn, Avon, Ohio; a sister, Louise Schrank, and her husband, Jeffrey, Kildeer, Ill.; and granddaughters, Madeline and Molly Shea, both of Manhattan Beach, Calif. A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel of Immaculate Catholic Church. Father John Aurilia will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors. Burial will be later in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jim Hurley Foundation, 640 23rd St., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
