CALAMUS — Mr. Harley J. Fisher, 68, Calamus, died Sunday morning, February 14, 2010, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Harley James Fisher was born April 13, 1941, at rural Lowden, to Arthur and Vanita (Pauls) Fisher. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1960 through 1964 as a helicopter repairman. Harley was a barber by trade and owned and operated Harley's Barber Shop in Grand Mound. He later went on to work at Caterpiler and Witte Lumber, and retired in 2004. He also did carpentry on the side. Harley married Pat Rooney, September 8, 1963, at Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Grand Mound. Harley served on the Grand Mound City Council for 17 years and the Clinton County Sold Waste Agency. He was a member of the Grand Mound Commercial Club, the Knights of Pythias and the Jaycees. Harley enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time at his cabin, traveling and playing bingo. He especially enjoyed the last 10 years that he had wintered in Florida. Surviving are his wife, Pat; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Lisa Fisher, Marion and Rodney and Bridget Fisher, Charlotte, North Carolina; daughters, Robin Costello and special friend, Rod Smith, Calamus, and Renee Green and her husband, Keith, DeWitt; grandchildren who were all very special to him, Zachary Fisher, Nathan Alsin, Sara Fisher, Nicole Green, Mitchell Green, Nicholas Costello, Martin Green, Kayla Fisher, Haley Fisher and Alan James "A.J." Fisher; brothers, David (Linda) Fisher, Hiawatha, and Robert Fisher, Lowden; sisters, Ardella (Sid) Boots and LaDonna Finch, Davenport, and Denise (Greg) Pingel, Ely; an aunt and uncle, Howard and Dorothy Fisher, Lowden; many nieces and nephews. Preceding Harley in death were his parents and a sister, Janet Fisher. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2010. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. Pallbearers will be Phil Johnson, Rod Smith, Keith Green, David Fisher, Robert Fisher, Nate Alsin and Zach Fisher. Honorary pallbearer will be Don Berg.
