DEWITT — Mildred E. (Mrs. Otto) Christensen, 98, DeWitt, died Friday evening, February 19, 2010, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. Mrs. Christensen was born September 4, 1911, in Grand Mound, Iowa, to William and Dora (Tebbe) Schunter. She married Otto Christensen, March 12, 1946, in Calamus. The couple farmed at DeWitt for many years. Mildred also worked as a clerk for DeLang's Pharmacy, Grand Mound, and Rexall Drug, DeWitt. She retired in 1988 from Walker's Department Store after working there for 15 years. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Calamus, and its Lydia Circle. Mildred enjoyed playing bridge and bird watching. She also enjoyed her card club. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Don Sites, Savanna; grandchildren, Elaine Sites, Rockford, Matthew Sites and his wife, Angel, serving in the United States Army in Afghanistan, Elizabeth Sites, Roscoe, Illinois, Rachel Sites, Rockford, Anne Sites, Mt. Prospect, Illinois, Benjamin Sites, Savanna, and Karen Sites, Freeport; her twin sister, Margaret Reynolds, Sabula; and a sister, Dorothy Weber, DeWitt. Preceding Mildred in death were her husband, Otto, in 1973, her parents and a brother, William. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010. A service of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Sarah E. Kretzmann will officiate and burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.
