Roy Vernon Smith
(March 5, 1912 - September 28, 2005)

Roy Vernon Smith, 93, DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, September 28, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center DeWitt.

He was born March 5, 1912 in rural Clinton County, Iowa, the son of Earl and Nellie (Atkinsen) Smith. He married Vivian Behr February 20, 1937 in DeWitt. They farmed in the DeWitt and Low Moor area. Roy had served on the Clinton County Co-op Board for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Marvin Hartmann, DeWitt, Iowa; two grandchildren Tina (Bill) Freese, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Greg Hartmann, DeWitt; four great-grandchildren, Eric, Adam and Ashley Freese and Derek Hartmann; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Verna Smith, DeWitt.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harvey Smith and four sisters, Ruby Smith, Irma Greve, Hazel Schnepel and Esther Sellnau.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 2:00 until 6:00 on Sunday. Funeral services will be 10:30 Monday, October 3 at DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship, Pastor Paul J. Lang and Reverand Richard Vettrus officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cliff Barber, Joe McGuire and Clem Goodall.
