FULTON, Ill. — Gladys L. Balk, 80, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL, died Friday, October 9, 2009, at the nursing home.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Edie Lenz, pastor of First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2009, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL. Memorials may be made to Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL.She was born August 29, 1929, in Fulton, IL, to Claus and Grace (Poel) Noordt.Gladys was educated in Fulton grade schools and attended Fulton High School. She married Eugene Balk on February 1, 1949, in Fulton, IL; he died May 29, 1987.Gladys and her husband farmed in Whiteside County for 20 years, moving to Fulton in 1969. She enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteered at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL, for 5 years. The past 8 years, Gladys was an active resident of Harbor Crest Nursing Home and served as president of the Residents Council. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved helping people. Gladys was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church, Fulton, IL.Survivors include three daughters, LaVonne (Phil) Huizenga of Fulton, IL, Kathy Suter of Fulton, IL, and Debra (Terry) Nelson of Spring Grove, IL; one son, Terry (Donna) Balk of Fulton, IL; seven grandchildren, John (Stacey)Dail, Jason (Christine) Dail, Shannon (Ted) McHugh, P.J. Gluchman, Amanda, Michael and Steve Balk; and nine great-grandchildren.
