NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — Donald A. Bowman, 75, of North Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Maquoketa, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, Florida, following a lengthy illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Donald Allen Bowman was born April 1, 1934, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Francis L. and Florence L. (Goetz) Bowman. He graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1952 and then attended the University of Iowa receiving his Bachelor's Degree in business. He later took computer classes at Edison Community College in Florida. He was a computer programmer for Lee Company in Florida for 17 years. In his younger years, he liked to dance, roller skate and enjoyed sports in school. In 1954, he was injured in a swimming accident and was in a wheelchair since. He loved to play poker. He is survived by one sister, Lois (Maxon) Widner of Weslaco, Texas; one brother, Hugh Bowman of Maquoketa; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are preferred.
