MORRISON — Lee A. Vander Schaaf, 91, of Resthave Nursing Home, died Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton.Funeral services are at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, IL, with the Rev. Philip Stel, Pastor of Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, IL officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment is at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorials be directed to Resthave Nursing Home and Ebenezer Reformed Church.Lee was born July 30, 1918 in Union Grove Township, IL to Fred and Ida (Miller) Vander Schaaf. He was educated in the rural Whiteside county schools. He married Georgiana Newendyke on August 25, 1938 in Morrison, IL; she died July 29, 2001.Lee was a brick layer for Groharing Mason Contractors for 47 years. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church where he was an elder and deacon. He was a member of the Local 6 Brick Layer Union, Rockford, IL for 63 years. Lee was a board member of Resthave Nursing Home where he served many terms as president. Lee was very active on the work projects for Resthave Nursing Home and Ebenezer Reformed Church. Lee enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, and woodworking. He enjoyed helping others. Lee cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Survivors include his two sons, John (Carolyn) Vander Schaaf, Morrison, IL, and LaVerne "Butch" (Ann) Vander Schaaf, Morrison, IL; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ida Viola Thudium, Morrison, IL; and one brother, Duane (Jeri) Vander Schaaf, Franklin, WI.He was preceded in death by his wife Georgiana and one grandson, Ty Vander Schaaf.To send online condolences go to www.bosmarenkes.com.Death date: Sept. 20, 2009
