DEWITT — Pete J. Sinclair, 88, DeWitt, died Wednesday morning, September 16, 2009, at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa. Pete Jesse Sinclair was born August 4, 1921, in Gillette, Wyoming, to Walter Arthur and Margaret May (Shive) Sinclair. Pete served in the Army during World War II. He married Glenna "Kay" Brewer, December 13, 1962, in Richmond, Kentucky. Pete was employed by the Department of Defense for over 30 years. He first worked as a quality assurance ammunition specialist in South Dakota and continued at various places both in the United States and abroad. Pete retired as a logistics management specialist at the Savanna Army Depot in 1979. Upon retirement, he owned and operated The Butcher Shop in DeWitt from 1982 until 1993. Pete was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, the Knights of Columbus and Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238 of DeWitt. He was a former member of the DeWitt Lions Clubs, the Loyal Order of Moose and was a former City of DeWitt councilman. Pete enjoyed golfing, woodworking, doing things for the youth and having a good time at all times. Surviving are his loving wife of over 46 years, Kay; children, Clifford "Jack" Sinclair, Morris, Illinois, Peter James (Lora) Sinclair, Louisville, Kentucky, Carol (Ron) Sossong and Loretta Sinclair, Joliet, Illinois, Robert (Lorretta) Sinclair, Ridgecrest, California, Robert (Sandra) Antle, Wilmington, Illinois, Debra (Dave) Kent, Center Point, Julia (Jim) Rawlings, Prince Fredrick, Maryland, Jeff (Ann) Sinclair, DeWitt; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way. Preceding Pete in death were his parents; his first wife, Gene Elaine Mattox; a grandson, Clark Sinclair; a brother, Walter; and sisters, Mary Spaulding, Hazel Wilson and Edith Pogue. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009, with a tribute from family and friends to follow. A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly presiding. Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Pallbearers will be Clifford Sinclair, Peter Sinclair, Robert Sinclair, Robert Antle, Jeff Sinclair, Justin Sinclair, Mason Garland, Dave Kent and Ron Sossong.
