MORRISON, Ill. — Richard L. Jenkins, 83, of Morrison, died September 9, 2009, at his home. Private family graveside services will be at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL, with military funeral honors. There will be no visitation. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL. He was born March 25, 1926, in Council Bluffs, IA, to Vance R. and Dorothy L. (Johnson) Jenkins. Richard was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, IA. He received a bachelor's degree from Peru State College, Peru, NE, and his master's degree in counseling and guidance from Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College. Kirksville, MO. He also held a special certification in school administration and finance. He married Doris M. Martin on June 17, 1947, in Owatonna, MN; she died November 9, 2002. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.Richard was employed for 39 years in education. His first 20 years were as a teacher and coach in football, baseball, wrestling, track and basketball; the last 19 years were in school administration. Most recently he was principal of Morrison High School, retiring in 1987. Richard was a member of Morrison VFW Post 8281, Morrison Rotary and various state teachers‚ organizations. He served two terms in the legislative commission of the Illinois High School Association. Survivors include two daughters, Janica Jenkins of Morrison, IL, and Jessica (Anthony) Ryan of Morrison, IL; one son, Jeffrey (Deborah) Jenkins of Fulton, IL; five grandchildren, Cody Smith; Haley Ryan, Lacey Ryan; Justin Jenkins, Zachery Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; one son, William Jenkins; one granddaughter, Megan Ryan; and one broher, Jack J.
