DAVENPORT — Marilyn I. Traver, 87, of Davenport, IA, died Friday, August 28, 2009 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Genesis VNA, in Bettendorf. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at New Life Baptist Church, 7780 W. Locust Street, in Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge, Davenport, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Elvira Cemetery. Memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church. Mrs. Traver was born in 1922 to Herman and Martha Tullberg. On February 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to David S. Traver in DeWitt, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2003. Marilyn was a registered nurse for 34 years, graduating from the former Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and participating in the student Army Nursing Corps. During her career she worked for the former St. Luke's Hospital, the Blue Grass Nursing Home and Davenport Good Samaritan before retiring as an industrial nurse with John Deere Harvester. Missionary work was an important part of her life, including medical missionary work and crusade team work in 22 different countries. In 1983, she had the opportunity to travel around the world with her husband as they represented Men For Missions International. In addition, she volunteered for the American Red Cross for over 25 years.Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, D. Cory and Debra Traver, Clinton, IA; and Barry S. and Lorene Traver of Davenport; six grandchildren: Jason Traver, Heidi (Joseph) Miller, Bryce Traver, Eric Traver, James Traver and Jeffrey Traver; 1 great grandson, Joseph Howison Miller II; 1 sister Bernice Swanson, Minneapolis, MN; 1 brother, Dr. Roland (Joan) Tullberg, Merryville, MO; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.In addition to her husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.The family would like to give special thanks to Jersey Ridge Place Assisted Living for the exceptional care for mother over the past 2 years as well as to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their compassion shown in the last moments of her life.Death date: Aug. 28, 2009
