CLINTON — George V. Balint, age 84, of Clinton, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24th, at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Harrington, Milo Harrington, Dwayne Buikema, Dean Hackney, Walter Harlock, Jon Pettifer and Dr. Joshua Nnanji. George was born in Aurora, IL, on April 23, 1925, the son of Louis V. and Veronica Nardos Balint. After George graduated from Aurora High School, he served with the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He was a yeoman third class who served aboard the light aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence. His ship was involved in many campaigns including the Philippines and the invasion of Tarawa. George married Marjorie Carter on October 17, 1953, in Aurora. Marjorie preceded him in death. George later married Mary Ann Kuk on August 25, 1984, in St. Mary's Church in Clinton. George worked as a salesman for Valley Liquors in Aurora for many years, retiring in 1988. George was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was an avid golfer and had belonged to Buck's Barn and the Fulton Country Club. He enjoyed following the Cubs and the Bears. George is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; three daughters, Donna Randis of Federal Way, WA, Sharon (Lee) Buquoi of Gonzales, LA, and Kimberly Balint of Fairfield, IA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; three stepchildren, Michael Kuk of Fort Polk, LA, Mary Ann (Dan) Kaffenberger of DeQueen, AR, and Catherine Kuk of the Quad Cities; five stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a special cousin, John Balint of Aurora.
