CLINTON — Gerda V. Peters, age 72, of Clinton, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th, at St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wayne Brinkmann will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Gerda was born in Clinton on February 21, 1937, the daughter of Arthur and Vera Geist Kading. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1955. Gerda married Robert Peters on August 12, 1955, in Clinton, they later divorced. Gerda was employed with A.C. Nielsen, E.I. DuPont Company and Kohl's for several years. She later owned and operated Your Gift Wishes on Main Avenue in Lyons and was well known for her sewing and alterations. Gerda was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She was a Red Hat Lady and she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and craft work. Gerda is survived by her four children, Gregg (Sarah) Peters of Clinton, Galen (Diane) Peters of Teeds Grove, Gwen (Dean) DeBok of Fenton, MO, and Gina (Lonnie Adair) of Fairfax, IA; two grandsons, Chad and Eric; two stepgrandchildren, Samantha and Blake; a great-granddaughter, Kaley; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carl. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
