ERIE, Ill. — Clifford Warkins, Jr., Erie, Illinois, beloved husband, brother, nephew, uncle, employer and friend passed from this life on July 26, 2009. He was 73 years old.Cliff was born September 23, 1935 to Clifford and Elma (Reid) Warkins in Atkinson, IL. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Erie High School in 1954. He married Betty Suter on April 3, 1955. Cliff worked with John Deere in many capacities from 1955 until his death. He served in the National Guard.He was a member and trustee of the Erie Baptist Church. He was a 33rd degree Mason and member of the Erie Masonic Lodge #667. He served the village of Erie as a former board member and mayor. Cliff devoted much of his time, energies and resources bettering his community and its schools in various ways.Cliff enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including collecting John Deere memorabilia, but his greatest love was farming. He enjoyed traveling, and made many wonderful lifetime friends through farming trips to several foreign countries. Through farming, he was able to impact both his local community and the world.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, a sister Barbara Warkins of Erie; his Aunt Grace Powell of Springfield, MO; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Andy Weaver of Erie; 2 nephews, Bryan Rundall of Erie and Brad Weaver and wife Tammy of Cape Coral, FL; 2 great-nieces, Miranda and Katie Weaver of Cape Coral, FL; and many cousins and extended family. Cliff will be greatly missed, but he will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at the Erie Baptist Church, 8th Avenue and 11th Street, Erie, IL on Wednesday, July 29 at 11:00 am. A family burial service will be held at the Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Erie Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 28 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Erie Baptist Church, the Erie Ambulance Service and a scholarship fund for Erie schools.Gibson Funeral Homes, Erie is in charge of arrangements. Cliff and Betty are thankful and praise God for all of their friends, family, employees, and business associates who bless them in many ways, and make their journey in life enjoyable and fulfilling. Death date: July 26, 2009
