The Clinton Herald Thursday March 17, 2005 p. 9A Shirley Jane Bahnsen passed away peacefully in San Diego, CA on Tuesday, March 8. She lived in Clinton from 1966 to 1996. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Chris Bahnsen, also of Clinton. The were married in 1969. Shirley had a lifelong passion for teaching art and was an instructor at Mount St. Clare College from 1979 through 1994. She received a BA in Design from UCLA in 1957, and MAT degree in Weaving and Design from Indiana University in 1966, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University in 1992. Shirley was listed in the 1992 edition of Who's Who in American Education. Shirley returned to San Diego in 1996 and was active in artist's books, fibers, sculpture, and public art. In 2002, she was appointed to the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture's Public Art Committee. She also taught at the Univ. of Calif., San Diego Craft Center and maintained an art studio at Spanish Village in San Diego's Balboa Park. She is survived by her brother, Dr. John A. Roese and sister-in-law, Janice K. Roese of San Diego, a niece, Shannon N. Overson of Orange, CA, a nephew, Daren M. Roese of Riverside, CA, two grand nieces, and three stepchildren, Steven J. Bahnsen of Chicago, IL., David J. Bahnsen of Coralville, IA and Mrs. Mark (Christine) Whipple of Clinton. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19 at First Methodist Church, San Diego. The family suggests donations to The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22038-1132.
